TN50 #70, 3 Words Worth Repeating, 02 May 2022

Hi Team,

Happy Monday and welcome to The Next 50 #70.  A dear friend of mine named John (not his real name) who lived a lot of life back when phones were still connected to walls with wires told me a great story a few years ago.  Early in John’s career and marriage he found himself in a full on mental and emotional flat spin.  It got so bad that he called Paul (also not a real name) his father-in-law for some guidance.  Paul was a WWII vet who had been a POW and survived.  John’s father-in-law patiently listened for what seemed like hours to John’s roller coaster tail of mental and emotional anguish, finally exhausted John quieted down and waited for what he knew would be very wise advice from his mentor.  Finally, Paul cleared his throat and with a very firm voice said, “JOHN, knock it off.”  So, John did.

Since hearing this story there have been many occasions during my own mental temper tantrums that I hear a voice from somewhere in the back of my brain saying, “ALEX, knock it off.”  It doesn’t work 100% of the time but it usually makes me laugh at myself a little and it often helps me get my thoughts moving in the right direction if there is anything useful that can be done.

What do you think?  Sounds too simplistic, right?  This would never work for your advanced brain, right?  Anyone with real problems needs something much more sophisticated than a simple 3-word disruptor and a smile when they are having a full on personal mental meltdown, right?

YOUR NAME HERE, Knock it off” (-:

Please let me know any thoughts or comments you have on this and share the post with your team or anyone who might find it useful.

Have a good one, Alex
