TN50#191_The Day That Turns Your Life Around_17 February_ 2025

Hi Team,

Have you ever had multiple people from completely different parts of your life recommend the exact same author or resource in the same day?  No?  Well if you ever do, and the people mean for you to do well or better than before; don’t think too much about it, and just dive in.

Happy Monday and welcome to The Next 50 #191 I like to think of personal performance in 3 components: physical, mental and emotional.  My framework focuses on 4 Buckets: Eat, Sleep, Move and Think.  This blog is my sandbox for sharing information that you might find useful for your personal performance.

This happened to me just after the new year; 2 very different friends from very different parts of my life both recommended a motivational speaker to me by the name of Jim Rohn.

Now don’t go looking for Jim’s recent social media post because Mr. Rohn died back in 2009, at the age of 79.  You may recognize the name of a guy who worked for him as a young man, who at the time was around the age of 20, Tony Robins – apparently Tony is some kind of self-help guru!

I also found it interesting to hear content that is decades old, that many of the recent authors and leadership experts liberally use as their own.  As in using Mr. Rohn’s exact words and phrases, maybe I just missed them giving Jim Rohn credit.  And to be fair, Mr. Rohn doesn’t claim to have created any of his content he gives a lot of credit to his parents and mentors and even the “Good Book” on many occasions (That would be the Bible for all you people living in Seattle or Portland, he wasn’t refereeing to an REI catalog)!

The book I Audibled and that I’d recommend is: The Day That Turns Your Life Around, and I would seriously recommend that you Audible it, as the book is Jim sitting down in the studio and taking you through the high points of his philosophies from many decades of workshops and seminars.  Jim recorded, The Day That Turns Your Life Around, in 2003 and honestly, his voice and mannerisms are definitely a big part of the high-quality content.

  • If you’re thinking the information is outdated, you’d be wrong.
  • If you’re thinking the information is probably boring, you’d be wrong.
  • If you’re thinking the old man can’t teach you anything that your AI powered phone can’t figure out, once again, I think you’d be wrong.

In fact I’d go so far as to say Q1 of 2025 is a great time to read this book with topics covered like:

  1. The Empowering Philosophy of Personal Responsibility
  2. Tapping the Magic of Personal Development
  3. Developing Rewarding Character Virtues

Just to name 3 of his witty and wisely delivered subjects.

Two of my sons and I drive over 1200 miles (each way) to an airshow in Oshkosh, WI from Castle Rock, CO every July and we listen to books during these road trips.  The Day That Turns Your Life Around will definitely be on this year’s “road trip” list!

Who do you know that could use this information? I bet you can think of a couple of people before you click the next email, please share the post with your team and anyone who might find it useful and let me know what you think!

Have a good one,

Alex
