TN50#199_I’m Back MF’s – Pay Attention_25 August_2025

Hi Team,

Yes my friends (what did you think I meant by MF’s?) I’m knocking the dust off this blog thing after what the scientists would call a “bat shit crazy” couple of months.  All the kids are back in school, and the morning temps are back in the mid 50’s here in Castle Rock, CO.  I hope everyone is wrapping up their summer feeling good about what they did OR did not do over the warm months!

So let’s ease back into things with a topic that is wildly popular right now for men of all ages, Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT).  And yes, unfortunately, I do mean men of all ages.

AND – let’s do it in a way that is a little more responsible than the prescription you’d get at the “Drive-Thru” Men’s Health Clinics that seem to be everywhere the last couple of years.

Let’s start with some top-drawer symptoms of Low T for men:

  1. Reduced Sex Drive and Erectile Dysfunction, I tell my male clients and anyone else who will listen you should be waking up or getting woken up with/by an erection regularly. If not – pay attention
  2. Fatigue and Low Energy, if you don’t have a good reason for the fatigue and low energy and item 1. is also off – pay attention.
  3. Changes in muscle mass and body fat, let’s face it men will lie like a rug to themselves on this one so ask your wife. If she says something like, “Ya it wouldn’t be bad to have more muscles, less fat ‘insert name’ back” – pay attention.
  4. Mood swings, no I don’t mean being hangry… unexplained irritability, depression and feeling unwell – pay attention.

I mentioned asking your wife on item 3 of this list but that was mainly to make a joke about your spouse busting your balls.  The truth is your wife can bust your balls on all 4 of these items.  (See what I did there?  Ya, cause testosterone is produced in your testicles or testes – word choice based on your level of nerdery)

Ok, so this is the transition where I turn over my cheeky intro into a useful resource that involves people who are so well educated that they may still be paying off school loans, even though they finished their MD or PhD 10 or more years ago.  Dr. Matt Kaeberlein, is the useful resource this week and I’d bet a quarter he’s paid off his loans or maybe didn’t have any…  I was introduced to Matt through his many appearances on Peter Attia’s podcast, The Drive.  Matt has his own podcast now as well as a Human Optimization business.  Today I’ll introduce a specific podcast related to Low T and what to do about it.

The really cool thing about this episode on TRT is it’s Matt and his doctor talking about Matt’s personal journey over the last year as he began taking TRT.  Including: Matt played around with oral supplementation then transitioned to injections, initial side effects and current outcomes; it’s a great personal story with just enough science.  Here’s the link:

On a personal note, I am not taking TRT, my levels are solid and regarding the 4 symptoms I mentioned I’m doing ok; though I do wonder about energy and mood sometimes…

That being said I would not hesitate to take TRT in a responsible way if/when I need it.
