TN50#23, Murph’s, Money and Memorial Day 2022, 7 June 2021

Hi Team,

Happy Monday and welcome to The Next 50 #23.

There is a CROSSFIT WOD (workout of the day) called “Murph”. Murph is the standard WOD for Memorial Day.

You can read about Lt. Michael Murphy, here .

Like many Memorial Days, I did this WOD first thing last week on Memorial Day. If you read last week’s post you know what most of the rest of the day looked like. Then a friend who wasn’t happy with his Murph time from Saturday, 29 May, let me know that he completed the WOD a second time on Memorial Day in an attempt to get a faster time – which he did. The WOD above done twice in 3 days! This motivated me to try 2 Murph’s in 3 days, so I repeated the WOD on 2 June, my second rep was not faster, but my elbows didn’t explode either.

These second Murphs got me thinking about something I can do to keep focused on showing up for Memorial Day 2022, so here’s my plan.

I will complete at least 50 Murph’s between Memorial Day 2021 and Memorial Day 2022. Every time I complete a Murph I will put a $20 in my “Murph” jar, when I get at least 50 done that will be $1000 that I can donate to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (linked here) in May of 2022, This organization is amazing, it makes sure that money is never an issue when it comes to SOF Goldstar Kid‘s educational requirements.

I’d love for you to participate, here are a couple ways this can work, but I’m sure there are more.

1. Get your own “Murph” jar (real or metaphorical) and put money in it every time I complete the WOD.
2. For those of you who do the WOD, set a reasonable goal for reps this next year and fill your own jar.

I know a guy who’s pretty high up in the Special Operations Warrior Foundation Org and I’m sure Gen. H. will think this is cool and we can all figure out a fun and meaningful way to wrap it all up by Memorial Day 2022.

Let me know what you think and if you’d like to get involved.

Have a good one, Alex
