TN50#71, Getting the Cold Shoulder, 09 May 2022

Hi Team,

Happy Monday and welcome to The Next 50 #71.  I titled this to be cheeky, actually, it could be titled, “Getting the Cold Cheeks”.

Lots of my team members have been cranking up the exposure training in the form of cold water/ice baths in the last few days.  What doesn’t kill us, in some cases, makes us stronger; and this is definitely the case with cold water emersion when done correctly.  With that in mind here are some resources for learning more about cold exposure/therapy!

Everything you ever wanted to read about cold exposure therapy, thank you Dr. Rhonda Patrick.

A few really important things you can watch/listen to, thank you Doctors Huberman and Patrick.  Once on the page scroll down to the time stamped links for:

  1. Tool 9 – Deliberate Cold Exposure Protocol & Mood/Anxiety
  2. Tool 10 – Cold Exposure, Mitochondria UCP1 & Heat Generation
  3. Tool 11 – Cold & Fat ‘Browning’, PGC-1alpha, Metabolism
  4. Cold Exposure & High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), PGC-1alpha, Muscle

Now just in case you scroll down to the exact segments I mentioned for this podcast without looking at all the other amazing topics please go back and scan everything on the episode page, it’s amazing to me that we have access to this high-level resource for free.

Don’t Die:  You are responsible for your own survival, talk to a subject matter expert about your specific circumstance before getting too crazy with any new forms of training/therapy.  This may include things like exposure to cold, exposure to heat, a workout called FRAN or even a challenge involving a dozen fresh Krispy Cream donuts.

Please let me know any thoughts or comments you have on this and share the post with your team or anyone who might find it useful.

Have a good one, Alex
