TN50#137, Adventure Ready, 30 October 2023

Hi Team,

Your best friend calls, “Kyle, I just won the lottery and I am taking you on the adventure of a lifetime, for free!”

Are you Adventure Ready?

Happy Monday and welcome to The Next 50 #137.  I like to think of personal performance in 3 components: physical, mental and emotional.  My frameworks focus on 4 Buckets: Eat, Sleep, Move and Think.  This blog is my sandbox for sharing information that you might find useful for your personal performance.

Valentine’s Day, 2023, I boarded my first of many flights in an adventure that would take me to 6 Continents and 7 countries where my teammates and I would attempt to skydive, run a marathon and plunge into water in each location and finish within a 7-day or 168-hour time cap.  When I first heard about the 7X Human Performance Project, I didn’t think I’d be getting on this plane.

Let’s take a trip back to October, 2021.  My friend and retired Navy SEAL, Ryan Birdman Parrot and I were talking, Ryan was telling me his plan to help a bunch of Veterans and First Responders… lots of story here that we’re going to skip for now …by getting a team together, flying around the world, hitting every continent where the team would: jump out of an aircraft or base-jump, run a marathon and plunge into the water on all 7 continents completing the entire trip within 7 full days or 168 hours.  As I considered his plan, my first thought was I couldn’t complete 7 marathons in 7 days – I was not Adventure Ready.

I first heard the phrase, “Adventure Ready” from my coach who is responsible for successfully preparing our 7X team for 7 marathons in 7 days, Chris Hauth.  I was listening to one of his podcast’s and he was like, “blah, blah, blah, ADVENTURE READY” and it smashed into brain and has been bouncing around in there ever since.  To get adventure ready for 7X took me 15 months.

So back to the top, your bestie makes that call; what would your “adventure of a lifetime” be if there are no limits?  Not sure, where to start?  Here’s the definition of adventure: an unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity. (here)

This definition can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people.  What would it mean for you?  Figure it out this week and we’ll continue our Adventure Ready roadmap discussion next week.

As always share the post with your team and anyone who might find it useful and let me know what you think!

Have a good one, Alex
