TN50 #85, Not Worth 1000 Words, But It Is Worth 600 Calories, 22 August 2022
Hi Team,
Happy Monday and welcome to The Next 50 #85. In the pix below there are 2 lbs. of carrots, 3 small flour tortillas and 12 teaspoons of table sugar.
Can you guess why they are in the picture?
That’s right! I am starting a Vegan food truck that only uses these 3 ingredients, food trucks like this are doing really well in Oregon! Actually, that’s not true, I’m not starting a food truck. In fact, you can steel that business plan, seriously, take it!
The real deal is they each have 50 grams of digestible carbohydrates each (and to tie in the title a gram of carbs equals 4 calories). Yup, 2 lbs. of carrots contain the same amount of digestible carbs as the 3 tortillas and the 12 teaspoons of sugar. Now what have you learned over your months of digesting TN50’s?
- Digestible carbs not used as energy get converted to and stored as fat.
- The speed with which carbs are digested matters when it comes to positive and negative effects on the body. How do you think that factors into consuming these 3 foods?
- If you are fatter than you want to be you should eat more carrots and lay off the dang tortillas and sugar!
Ok, ok, I am extrapolating somewhat but you can find threads of all 3 of these points somewhere in the last 84 TN50’s.
Here’s the thing a lot of you reading this would probably feel great only consuming 50, or so, grams of carbs most days and if you are eating food with “added sugar” or refined carbs it’s really hard to hit that number and do it well from a food quality standpoint.
Here is the takeaway! Ditch the sugar and refined carbs most days and eat your veggies! If I can help you with more information on this stuff, let me know, and as always share the post with your team or anyone who might find it useful.
Have a good one, Alex
