TN50#115, “Women Are Not Small Men” 8 May 2023

Hi Team,

Happy Monday and welcome to The Next 50 #115.  I like to think of personal performance in 3 parts: physical, mental and emotional; my frameworks focus on 4 Levers: Eat, Sleep, Move, Think.  This blog is my sandbox for sharing little tidbits of information that you might find useful regarding your personal performance.

Based on the title of this blog and it being 2023 you might be thinking I’m diving into the noise; I mean uh current events (-:  Happy to say, “I’m not!”

“Women, are not small men, and we can’t eat like them.” is one of the quotes my friend, and 7Xpedition Fuel Mama, Chelsea Burkart dropped on me when she shared 2 great podcasts, a couple weeks ago.  Chelsea is a badass Performance Dietician; you can check her out here: LinkedIn.

These 2 pods are so good I’m sharing them with you!  They are both focused on High Performance and Healthy Aging for Women, including many things that are different regarding a woman’s physiology compared to a man’s, as well as many things that are generally the same.  You’ll see the “M” word in one of the podcast titles when you click on the link; ignore it, I’m guessing they put that in there for key word search optimization.

Barbell Shrugged, ep. 690

The Dr. Gabrielle Lyon Show, ep. 33

Both of these pods do a good job of quickly explaining the puberty to grave nuances for women to consider in a performance world dominated by studies that historically only involved men.  That’s changing now, these 2 pods are good introductions to what’s going on with the ladies.

Speaking of ladies, 3 of the SME’s in these 2 pods are women.  So high performance women PhDs, who are professionals in the study of high-performance women, talking about how to be high-performance women.  What more could a high-performance woman ask for?

If I were a woman, I would listen to these pods, heck I listened to both of them, ordered a book from one of the participants and I’m now following another’s SME’s pod and I’m all man baby, yeah.

Ok in all seriousness; everyone with an interest in women’s performance should listen to these podcasts.  In my estimation this may include but is not limited to the following:

  1. Women
  2. Husbands
  3. Brothers
  4. Sons

If you’re a dude still thinking, “what’s the big deal?” look at the pix at the top of this blog, go on… Still wondering?  Shoot me an email and we’ll take it off line

Ok.  Remember, “women are not small men” if you are a woman or train women or know some women, these pods are worth a listen.  Thanks again to Chelsea B!

As always share the post with all the ladies, your team and anyone who might find it useful and let me know what you think!

Have a good one, Alex
