TN50 #65, Every 4 Seconds, 28 March 2022

Hi Team,

Happy Monday and welcome to The Next 50 #65.  According to the Internet we breath about 22,000 times a day on average.  Using my iPhone to do the math that means we breath once every 3.93 seconds, or over 8 million times a year.

So here’s a question:

How much time have you spent making sure you know all there is to know about how to breath properly?  OK, that might not be fair I mean it isn’t like you had to learn to breath, it is innate – thank the good Lord!

So here’s another question.  Is there anything else in your life (that you can affect) that you do 8 million times a year that you’ve spent less time studying or improving?  I definitely know the answer to that is, No, for all of us.

Breathing is one of those subjects that doesn’t fit in any of my 4 buckets, Eat, Sleep, Move, Think.  Reason being, it actually plays a major role in all 4 domains.

My favorite breathing author/practitioner is Patrick McKeown who wrote, The Oxygen Advantage, among other books. The quickest way for you to get a taste of what I am talking about and how Mr. McKoewn teaches and thinks about breathing is to listen to this 1 hours podcast from January, 2022.  You could also audible or buy in print any of his books, the two I have read and can recommend are, The Oxygen Advantage and Atomic Focus.  Either of these will be useful as you start learning how you can take control of your breath work.

There you have it, what do you think?  Is it worth an hour of your time to learn a little bit more about all the things there are to know about breathing?  We all know the answer is, Yes!

As always, please share your thoughts and share this with your team or anyone who might find it useful.

Have a good one, Alex
